At some point, every car fanatic has daydreamed about stumbling across a ‘barn find’ – a neglected gem that they can restore back to its former glory.
For one bloke in Western Australia, that dream became a reality when this 1985 HDT VK SL Group A Brock Commodore popped up on our sister site, RR Auctions, where it sold with a hammer price of $30,000.
That winning bidder clearly knew exactly what he was doing when his bidding went all the way to the end on the classic Commodore, as he’s already started work on restoring it.

Fair play to him – one look at the rusted, dilapidated state of the car would scare some of the biggest HDT fans away!
Undeterred by the scope of the project, work is already well underway on bringing this rare car back to its former glory.
The new owner has already sourced a number of parts for the VK, including a replacement Momo steering wheel, brake hoses, weather stripping, and some body panels to cut out and replace rusted sections.
Parts of the interior have already come out, including the seats and speakers. Although he’s had to contend with a few tricky rusted-up bolts along the way, he already has new interior upholstery ordered and on its way to him.
He’s also installed a hoist in his shed to make working on this extensive build even easier. As if anyone would try doing this one on jackstands anyway!
The Retro Rides team will be watching closely as this build unfolds. Hopefully we can head over to Perth and check out the final product of this hard work once it’s done!
