Description

A Time-Capsule Z-Car with Muscle, Low – Mileage, and Provenance.

Born from the iconic Z-car bloodline, the Datsun 260Z was the more powerful evolution of Japan’s first true sports car, combining sleek styling with straight-six muscle and a pure driver’s experience. This example, a rare original RHD vehicle first registered in the UK in 1978, is a standout in every respect and a true credit to its previous owners.

After years of searching for the right car, the previous seller secured this original, low mileage 260Z in 2017 and imported it to Australia. At the time, it had travelled just 15,457 miles from new which is a figure supported by full UK MOT documentation. In the years since, only a further 2000 miles have been added, and more than $45,000 with receipts has been invested to ensure the car performs and presents at its best.

Finished in a timeless white over black interior, the 260Z retains much of its original character. The 2.6-litre inline-six engine remains in place but now breathes more freely thanks to 240Z carburettors and a brand-new 240Z-style exhaust system supplied by ZTherapy. A 240Z air cleaner complements the setup, offering a sharper response and a bit more character under throttle, all while retaining the original components should a future owner wish to revert.

The vehicle sits on its original 14-inch alloy wheels with Vredestein classic tyres and includes a few subtle modern updates such as central locking, integrated air-conditioning, and LED headlights to enhance everyday usability.

When it arrived in Australia, the car did show minor imperfections in a few areas, so the owner commissioned The Healey Factory in Melbourne to address, treat, and repaint only the necessary sections, preserving as much originality as possible.

Inside, the cabin remains beautifully preserved. The black trim, original dash, roof lining, and door cards are in excellent condition. Every switch and system works just as it should, and the seats show only minimal signs of wear for their age.

Mechanically, the car has been maintained by the Z Shop in Melbourne, including a full inspection and regular servicing. Detailed invoices support the attention and care it has received, right down to smaller items like a new distributor, coil and engine tuning work.

It also comes complete with its original UK sales invoice, a full suite of maintenance and ownership records, the original and unused toolkit, and even a magazine feature on the vehicle, an incredible documentation package that speaks to the car’s provenance and preservation.

With its low mileage, strong mechanicals, and timeless good looks, this 260Z offers a rare opportunity to own a Z-car that stands tall in both originality and driveability.

The 260Z represents the sweet spot in the Z car lineage, more refined than the 240Z, yet still utterly connected to the road. It is exactly the sort of car that discerning collectors seek out. It’s not just preserved…it’s curated. It is a classic you can proudly display or take on your favourite stretch of tarmac, either way it’s ready for its next chapter.
