The Ford Mustang Mach 1 was first introduced in the 1969 model range as a replacement for the label ‘GT’, as it no longer was a name that would initiate images of street screeching performance for the younger drivers that Ford was trying to attract to their muscle cars. Due to the Mach 1’s success, the ‘GT’ badge was discontinued after 1969 due to poor sales and would not be reintroduced until 1982. The Mach 1 package was only available in the “SportsRoof” fastback body style.

1971 to 1973 was the 2nd generation of Mustang and the most recognisable features of these Mustangs was the optional (standard on Boss 351) NACA (NASA) hood design with dual scoops.

This car was manufactured in January 1973 and was originally equipped with a 5.8-litre 351-2V V8 Ram Air engine and presented in Medium Blue Metallic paint. This configuration has gone and been replaced with a ’70 429-4V Cobra Jet engine which has been bored 60”thou over and fitted with a 460 crank to now push this beast to be a 472ci Stroker. Coupled with Probe performance forged  pistons and 10.5:1 compression the engine is producing 496hp and 561 ft-lbs torque at 3450rpm.

Apart from the mechanical work detailed above, the car has been nicely restored including a very good repaint in the ’69 Mach 1 colour of Gulfstream Aqua and has had rust repairs completed, including new rear quarters, trunk drop-offs, trunk floor, driver side F & R floor pans and passenger side rear floor pan. The car is also fitted with some factory options including tilt-column adjustable steering, tachometer and gauges pack, and AM/FM radio.

This ’73 Mach 1 is a good driver and shows in very good condition. It is an awesome car to drive, and is geared for either street or strip performance.

This is definitely one for the Big Block enthusiasts!!
