In the late 1960’s Sir Jack Brabham retired from international motor racing and bought a Ford dealership on the Hume Highway at Greenacre in Sydney’s west.

It became Jack Brabham Ford, the same dealership that would later go on to sell the one and only production Ford Falcon XA GTHO. Sir Jack, together with workshop manager Gary Smith and race driver and engineer, Barry Sharp, came up with the Jack Brabham Special. These Specials were designed to be road drivable performance cars the same as the Brabham team “Series Production” race cars. The cars were optioned up Falcons and Fairmont’s.

They were ordered from the factory with whatever the customer wanted and were painted in the Jack Brabham Ford dealership colour scheme and fitted with some performance parts and “Jack Brabham Special” insignia.

These cars were offered in three colours. Bronze Wine, Electric Blue, and Copper Bronze all in a tu tone scheme with Ultra White. Even after all our research we are still yet to find another example like this car.

This car is one of approximately 50 examples made to celebrate the Ford Falcon XY GT sponsored by Jack Brabham Ford. In addition to this it was the first Jack Brabham Special made and it was Jack Brabham’s personal car. Sporting its unique Bronze Wine and Ultra White paint scheme, side mouldings and alloy wheels together with notable factory options such as a 351 K Code engine, Golde windback sunroof and originally fitted at the dealership with an 8-track stereo tape player, with unique Jack Brabham wheel centres and extractors with a dual exhaust system.

The car still retains the original logbooks, matching number engine and was previously owned by the same family since brand new. This special piece of Ford motoring history has previously been featured in both Australian Muscle Car magazine and Unique Car magazine. As other models such as GS’s, GT’s and GTHO’s are more readily available this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to secure what could be the last of its kind in existence.
