Time-lapse restoration: 1991 BMW 320i Convertible

    1991 BMW 320i Convertible

Normally, when we talk about restorations, the subject of the resto is older - and a touch more characterful - than the 1991 BMW 320i Convertible. But there is a corner of the automotive enthusiast world that finds the BMW E30 impossible to resist.

The drop-top version of this German icon offered a blend of open-air thrills and classic luxury. Its 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine provided enough pep for daily commutes, while the 5-speed manual and responsive handling made carving corners a joy.

Based on the highly-respected E30 chassis, it sported timeless design with a power-folding fabric top for convertible bliss.

Today, these convertibles are collector's items prized for their driving fun, iconic looks, and growing collectability.

This particular restoration project took more than two years because the owners could only work on the car on weekends. Luckily for us, they've condensed the video into a 10-minute time-lapse, which is just enough time for a cuppa or a beer while you watch a neglected beast turn back into a true beauty.
