Bugatti is giving Veyron collectors a new way to keep their cars on the road

Back at the 2020 edition of Rétromobile in Paris, Bugatti announced that it was launching a new restoration program, La Maison Pur Sang to keep its historic models on the road and in collector-grade condition.

Now, the brand has revealed the latest ‘one-of-one’ creation from this program, a comprehensively restored Veyron, and it reveals just how the brand plans to keep the iconic hypercar on the road for years to come.

Officially ‘La Maison Pur Sang Veyron 20 Years’, this vehicle was an entirely bespoke project for its discerning owner, as all individual La Maison Pur Sang projects are.

For this particular Veyron, Bugatti’s specialist team has refinished it in a way that honours the 20 years of vehicles since the Veyron’s launch. ‘Rouge Rembrandt’, a new colour developed for the current Tourbillon is paired with ‘Petrol Blue’ as offered on the Chiron.

Teamed with a fresh ‘Magnolia’ leather interior, this unique restoration preserves the unmistakable proportions and presence that defined the Veyron while bringing a contemporary visual expression to it.

What will be music to Veyron owners’ ears, however, is that this car debuts a new wheel concept that enables the Veyron to use conventional tyres in the same dimensions seen on the Chiron.

Previously, the Veyron only accepted Michelin PAX tyres which are exorbitantly expensive – even for Bugatti owners – and complicated to fit, requiring a specialised machine.

Now, this car wears a modern reinterpretation of the classic 12-spoke ‘Machiavelli’ wheel design but accepts conventional high performance rubber. They’re also enlarged to 20-inch rims up front with 21-inch in the rear, filling the guards out nicely for a modern look.

Factor in new three-dimensional mesh elements for the front, side, and rear air intakes on the outside, along with a Côte de Genève finish inspired by high-end watchmaking on the interior centre console, and it’s clear that what Bugatti has created is a true collector-grade example of this historic hypercar.

“The Veyron is one of the most important cars in Bugatti history, and any adjustment to that original, legendary formula must begin with respect,” explains Frank Heyl, director of design at Bugatti.

“With the La Maison Pur Sang program, we are preserving the essence of each Bugatti, while giving owners the opportunity to bring a new dimension of personal expression to their car and bring an automotive icon into new light.

“With this exquisite example of the Veyron, La Maison Pur Sang further elevates the exceptional opportunities that it offers, where fully tailor-made restorations find their place in the echelons of automotive history.”

When unveiling La Maison Pur Sang Veyron 20 Years at Pebble Beach, Bugatti launched a configurator for the Veyron, making select features available to discerning customers and paving the way for each of their singular journeys with La Maison Pur Sang.

Launched in 2005, the Veyron was the brainchild of the late Dr Ferdinand Piëch, then CEO of Volkswagen Group, who envisioned a car with an outrageous 1000PS and a top speed of 400km/h that was still civilised to drive to the opera in the evening.

Crowned the fastest car in the world from 2005-07, and again from 2010-17 in Super Sport guise, the Veyron is arguably the vehicle that brought the term ‘hypercar’ into the modern vocabulary.

This creation from La Maison Pur Sang is just the latest in 20th birthday celebrations for the Veyron, notably including the creation of the Veyron F.K.P. Hommage earlier this year – a new, one-off vehicle based on the Mistral convertible.
