TWR has finally unveiled what its limited-edition 'Super-GT' looks like in the flesh, with full details of the aptly-named Supercat finally being divulged.

Limited to just 88 examples, the Supercar is based on the underpinnings of the Jaguar XJS, but draped in an extreme carbon-fibre body and with a good dose of extra power added.

Featuring a supercharged 5.6-litre V12 which is an in-house design, it delivers an immense 492kW (660hp) at 7600rpm and 730Nm at 5350rpm, while weighing 165kg less than the original XJS. There's also a six-speed manual gearbox in place of the original three-speed auto.

That's thanks in part to the lightweight body, but also its unique construction, with the Supercar featuring a tubular T45 steel chassis rather than stamped sheet metal.

To give drivers all the control you can imagine, it features 12-level programmable ABS brakes, along with five different traction control levels and five drive mode settings.

Enhancing its stability and aerodynamics, the Supercat is also 182mm wider than the XJS, with a track width increase of 115mm at the front and 100mm at the back.

Staggered 18-inch front and 19-inch rear forged Monoblok wheels help enhance its stance, while an optional set of carbon ceramic brakes can be tucked away behind them.

TWR director and founder Fergus Walkinshaw describes the Supercat as an "authentic, analogue Super-GT for the committed driving enthusiast" which should "deliver a visceral, immersive driving experience".

Given he's the son of racing royalty Tom Walkinshaw, we'll take his word for it. Mind you, the current TWR company is a separate entity from the original Tom Walkinshaw Racing outfit.

Pricing for the TWR Supercat starts at £225,000 (A$440,000) but varies according to individual specification.

The full unveiling of the Supercat comes just after Jaguar, makers of the original XJS, announced a controversial rebranding.
