Sold This Week: 1997 AC Cobra KCC

Sold! This fire breathing black and red 1997 AC Cobra replica powered by a stroked 6.0-litre Chevrolet V8 sold for $71,500 this week at Trading Garage.

The AC Cobra is a legendary Anglo-American sports car known for its brutish power and sleek design. It was the brainchild of American race car driver and engineer Carroll Shelby back in the 1960s, blending a European small sports car chassis with a muscular American V8 engine.

Modern replicas like this 1997 beauty feature updated technology and mechanicals compared to the 1960s originals, but the spirit remains the same.

Inside the cabin of this KCC-built replica the red and black theme continues along with vinyl upholstery and a woodgrain steering wheel. It rides on a set of 15-inch black wheels with contrasting red knock-off hubs, and has just 24,000km on the clock.

Cliff Allen Says: “It’s hard not to love the AC Cobra. Fast, loud and raw, they make for a thrilling ride. There are numerous builders of replica Cobras, and, as long as they are built well, the simple structure make them easy to work on. AT $71K this represents the entry level for these great cars.”
