The ‘scandalous’ story behind one of Lamborghini’s most iconic colours

Lamborghini’s ability to offer almost boundless customisation to its customers through the ‘Ad Personam’ program is one of its best-known strengths.

In particular, exterior colour options are one of Lambo’s best-known specialities. Currently, the House of Sant’Agata is able to offer 400 different colours for prospective buyers to choose from, along with the ability to produce unique colours matched to a client’s specific requests.

Over the years, Lamborghini’s attention to detail when it comes to developing new hues has led to certain shades that are shrouded in a legendary story. One such example is Verde Scandal.

The late ’60s is when this particular shade originates, not long after the launch of the legendary Miura. The company’s first sports car and an important part of its burgeoning success, even at this time, Automobili Lamborghini had the foresight to recognise the importance of offering customisation options to its customers.

The story goes that a woman looking to purchase a Miura asked for a colour that had not yet been developed by Lamborghini – a very particular shade of green that matched the dress she was wearing in that moment.

When one of the company’s representatives asked for a sample with which to develop the requested hue, it is said that she took off her dress and left it as an example for them to work with.

Hence, given the ‘scandalous’ origin story, the Verde Scandal name was given to this particular paint colour which has gone on to emerge as one of the most iconic Miura colours, while also recently returning to the limelight on other, more recent vehicles.

It features prominently on the livery of the latest Ducati Panigale V4 motorcycle, which was revealed at Milan Design Week on April 9, 2025. This particular Ducati bike draws inspiration from the Lamborghini Revuelto, the brand’s first hybrid sports car.

Another model from several years prior on which this colour prominently featured was the 2017 Lamborghini Aventador Miura Homage – a version of the V12 hypercar limited to just 50 examples which paid tribute to the car that started it all, with Verde Scandal one of the three colours it was offered in.
